Fort Belvoir Travel Camp - We stayed at Fort Belboa Travel Camp on SITE 39 overlooking the Potomac River in May 2021. We loved it and plan to visit it again!

FORT BELVOIR ARMYBASE-TRAVEL CAMP! As mentioned before, thanks to Kevin's service classification and military release (only certain items are authorized), we can use these FAMs, or traveling camps, on military bases. (any service point) In many cases RVers may use the PX board and other services.

Lodging rates ($47 per night in May 2021) aren't necessarily cheaper than flat rates at nearby private campgrounds, but security is excellent. Other basic services such as swimming pool, beauty salon, gym, etc. Some bases are very good. Plus.. in this case, we camped an hour and a half down the Potomac River from Washington DC! Location, location, location! Easy access to many historic sites including I-95, Washington DC, Alexandria & Frederickburg, VA and Mount Vernon.

The main entrance of the FAM camp. No longer staffed and check-in is at the adjacent recreation building. Be aware of easily missed signs.

The shower has an exterior door that leads to one of the bathrooms with a private shower. It is accessible from the outside at both ends of the building. Very private, safe and spotless.

Kevin said this is what every service pedestal should be. This camp is less than 10 years old and is very well maintained.

With Memorial Day at Fort Belvoir, our time was not perfect in retrospect. DC used to be a mafia hangout and most museums in DC have yet to see where they are closed or have limited advance tickets due to Covid-19. Unfortunately, we had a nice day near Fredericksburg, Virginia (about a 35 minute drive). It is a colonial city with a lot of history, historic buildings, great restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed a great "German lunch" at Deutschland Downtown and also enjoyed a tour of some historic buildings. Worth the day trip in our opinion. Five… and did I mention there is a large IKEA store about 15 minutes from the campsite? Yes… we've been there many times to relive history, so we don't A must-see this time around, so we made the trip to Mount Vernon for a store visit. Book and gift shop.

Here we go down the street from the Deutschland Restaurant Downtown and enter the Visitor Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The tourist camp is open 7 days a week, 7 days a week. With a perfect location along the Potomac River and only a 30-minute drive to DC, this is where everyone wants to be.

There are 52 fully occupied 40ft RV campsites (Travel Camp Sitemap PDF). Each campsite has picnic tables, grills and fireplaces, and great views of the Potomac River. Castle Park, 2 fishing piers and the Accotink Wildlife Refuge are within walking distance of the campground. Outdoor recreation offers additional services such as firewood, bait, ice, ice cream, equipment rental, hunting, fishing, hiking, bicycles and boats.
