The Conservancy was deeply saddened to learn that 89-year-old Joe Rota passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 5, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Joe was a founding board member and former crew member, and was one of the greatest champions of saving his beloved SS United States. From his passion for the wilderness to his great stories about the adventures of his ships, he instilled a lot of heart, strategic direction and humor into our efforts.
